How It Started
Founded in 2008 by Thomas Priebe, Kai Fechner, and Goran Berkes, M.A.C. System Solutions GmbH emerged during a challenging period, just three months before the global financial crisis. Despite the timing, M.A.C. focused on developing technical solutions for data acquisition, control, and regulation in the maritime and industrial sectors. From the outset, the company’s spirit has been to merge the best of marine engineering with software expertise – a principle that has guided its work ever since.
Finding Our Focus
In its early years, M.A.C. concentrated on creating innovative technological solutions. One significant milestone was the development and market introduction of SDBnet, a product tailored for the shipping industry. By 2020, SDBnet had become the core focus of the company, leading to the strategic decision to concentrate exclusively on this product; other projects were phased out. In the same year, Goran Berkes took full ownership of M.A.C., with Thomas Priebe and Kai Fechner stepping down as shareholders. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges, prompting M.A.C. to streamline operations, adapt processes, and advance technologically.
Where We Stand Today
Today, with several hundred installations in service, the company is a trusted partner for shipping companies, providing data-driven, web-based software and hardware solutions in Ship Performance Management, Energy Efficiency Management, and Environmental Regulation Management – and assisting customers in complying with emission reporting regulations.

Our products are widely accepted and appreciated by ship crews and shore staff alike. Whether it is the Captain and his onboard team, the Technical Superintendents, the Cargo Operations or Chartering Department, or the Commercial Controlling teams – all stakeholders have access to the same transparent, clearly structured data, enabling them to jointly identify the best solutions in their complex, often time-driven business environment.

From Software to the Ship
Software alone does not win the prize, however. Before they can be used, software and hardware tools must find their way on board the ships. Thanks to our combined expertise in software and robust marine technology, we support our clients in installing our products on their vessels and within their IT landscape, integrating existing sensors and IT equipment to deliver cost-efficient and sustained solutions.
Growing Through Partnerships
In recent years, M.A.C. has expanded its reach through strategic investments in companies like EnvService GmbH, and by establishing sister companies such as M.A.C. Networks GmbH. This diversification aims to better serve various customer groups while maintaining a sharp focus on core competencies.

Throughout our trajectory, we have preserved our start-up spirit: a lean working style and a familial, independent work environment in which our core team has stuck together while continuously attracting open-minded experts from both the IT and maritime industries. This structure enables us to quickly understand our clients’ challenges and translate them into proper solutions.
What’s Next
M.A.C. is committed to further innovation. In 2024, the company began developing and manufacturing its own hardware and new services focused on emissions reduction consultancy – the next step in M.A.C.’s evolution, continuing its tradition of high-quality, customer-centric solutions.
